Project #1: Characterization of biological systems using nanoscale infrared spectroscopy
We have recently established the highly sensitive nano-FTIR method (Nano Letters 24, 836 Link). Using this new technique, we would like to study several biological systems including DNA, amyloids, and lipid bilayers. Our nano-FTIR will be able to observe local structures and molecular interactions directly at the nanoscale.

Project #2: Characterization of nanomaterials using time-resolved broadband nanospectroscopy
We have established time-resolved non-linear nanospectroscopy by combining scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy with an ultrafast & ultrabroadband pulsed laser. Using this cutting-edge measurement technique, we would like to study nanomaterials including nanocarbons, atomic-layered materials, and nanoparticles, which relate to important optoelectronic devices or energy conversion.
